The Pentagon is currently in talks with American automakers Ford and General Motors to manufacture parts and components for weapon systems using their facilities. This initiative addresses entrenched production bottlenecks in the US defense industry, where consumption during six weeks of fighting in Iran exceeded multiple years of production for several key weapon systems. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll, a close friend of Vice President JD Vance, last year accused legacy defense companies of deliberately using expensive, specialized systems over cheaper commercial equivalents.
