US begins demining Strait of Hormuz

The United States has initiated demining operations in the Strait of Hormuz, according to a Politico report. The US Navy has not yet discovered any Iranian mines, but the threat of several types, including seabed and drifting variants, has caused commercial vessel traffic through the critical waterway to practically cease. Analysts estimate that clearing the strait could take anywhere from a few days to several weeks.
