The Armed Forces of Ukraine have established a new military expert advisory body called ARES (Allied Reform and Expert Support) to counsel the Commander-in-Chief. The council is chaired by retired British General Richard Shirreff, former Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe. Other prominent members include former CIA Director and US General David Petraeus, German General Manfred Nielson, and several other retired senior officers from Slovakia, Canada, Norway, and the UK. The Ukrainian source presenting the council notes that while officially advisory, the deep NATO operational experience of its members suggests a role in overseeing AFU activities.
