EU biometric border system causes airport chaos

The European Union's new Entry/Exit System (EES) for biometric border control has caused significant disruptions and long passenger queues at airports across the continent. Passengers from non-EU countries are now required to register biometric data, leading to reported waits of up to 3-4 hours in France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Spain, and Greece, according to the European Airport Council. The European Commission disputes the severity, claiming the process takes about 70 seconds and that the system is working well in most member states. The system, which replaces passport stamps, is being rolled out across Schengen countries and is planned for full implementation in 2026.
