IDF kills Hamas communications, production commanders
The Israel Defense Forces announced it eliminated senior Hamas commanders in targeted operations in the Gaza Strip. In one strike, Ahmed Abu Hasira, a commander in Hamas's communications unit in the Gaza City area, was killed. The IDF also said it struck Islam Hisham Riyad Kanita and Mahmoud Hamed Youssef Hamdouna earlier this week, key militants in Hamas's production unit who were working to restore the organization's military capabilities during the ceasefire. These operations come as Israeli officials prepare for possible renewed fighting while also continuing preparations for Independence Day ceremonies.
The IDF has named the communications unit commander as Ahmed Abu Khachira and the two production unit operatives as Islam Kenita and Mahmoud Hamduna, specifying their roles in advancing terror operations and restoring Hamas capabilities.
The IDF provided additional details about the elimination of Ahmed Abu Hasira, specifying he was a commander in Hamas's communications unit in the Gaza City area, and confirmed the earlier strikes on two militants in Hamas's production unit.
