Ukrainian officer defects to Romania

A Ukrainian border guard officer has defected to Romania during a joint operation. A 28-year-old major from the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, stationed in Izmail, requested refugee status from Romanian border guards. The incident occurred during a border representative meeting between Ukraine and Romania, which was part of a joint investigation into the detention of a Ukrainian citizen. The officer excused himself to the restroom and then chose not to return to Ukraine.
