France, Italy to send SAMP/T air defense to Ukraine

Ukraine is set to receive advanced European air defense systems to bolster its long-range capabilities. The first improved variant of the French-Italian SAMP/T (Surface-to-Air Missile Platform/Terrain) system is expected to be delivered to Kyiv in 2026. Up to seven additional systems could be delivered over the following two years, pending production rates. If the deliveries proceed as planned, this could significantly reduce Ukraine's reliance on U.S.-provided air defense systems for long-range protection.
