Over 50 Israeli raids hit western, central Lebanon

Thursday, 16 April 2026 at 16:24 UTC · 3 sources

Israel has launched a major wave of airstrikes across multiple towns in Lebanon, described by sources as creating 'fire belts.' The bombardment comes just hours after an Israeli drone strike reportedly killed a senior Hezbollah commander and as a U.S.-brokered ceasefire is set to begin. The strikes are targeting towns in southern Lebanon, including Qana, Al-Mansouri, Kafra, and Ramadi, in what appears to be a final push ahead of the truce. The ceasefire, announced by President Donald Trump, is scheduled to begin on Thursday at 5 p.m. ET.
