Ukraine appoints new Eastern grouping commander

Ukraine has appointed Major General Victor Nikoliuk as commander of Operational Command 'East', a critical grouping responsible for the front line across Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk, and Kharkiv oblasts. Nikoliuk is a decorated officer who received the Hero of Ukraine title for his role in defending Chernihiv Oblast during the initial Russian invasion in 2022. His appointment places a seasoned commander in charge of a vast and active sector of the war.
