IranStrait of Hormuz
Hormuz traffic remains low amid US blockade
Thursday, 16 April 2026 at 17:42 UTC · 1 source
Maritime traffic through the critical Strait of Hormuz remains significantly below normal levels, according to vessel tracking data from MarineTraffic. The reduced traffic over the past 36 hours comes as the U.S. Navy blockade of Iran continues, with vessel movement through the strait and entrance to the Gulf of Oman well below typical volumes. This follows earlier data showing only 8 confirmed ship crossings across the strait on April 15, indicating sustained disruption to one of the world's most important oil shipping routes.
