Bundeswehr sees 20% surge in applicants

The German Bundeswehr has reported a significant 20 percent increase in the number of applicants during the first quarter of 2026. By the end of March, approximately 22,700 people had applied for a military career, resulting in 5,800 new recruits joining the force. The army's current total strength stands at around 185,400 soldiers. This uptick in interest comes amid a broader European focus on bolstering military capabilities.
