Thursday, 16 April 2026 at 19:30 UTC · 2 sources
The Netherlands will transfer an Alkmaar-class minehunter vessel to Ukraine, with President Volodymyr Zelensky announcing it will be renamed M314 "Genichesk" in honor of a Ukrainian ship lost in 2022. The Dutch will fully train the Ukrainian crew and plan to deliver the vessel in June. This vessel, the M857 Makkum built in 1985, will become the fifth ship in Ukraine's future mine countermeasure fleet and the second provided by the Netherlands.
