Mohammad Shirmohammadian, a commander of the Basij paramilitary force at a mosque in Tehran's District 18, has been killed. He was assassinated by unknown individuals using a firearm in the Hosseini Fardous neighborhood. The Basij is a volunteer branch of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) often involved in internal security and suppression of dissent. The motive and perpetrators of the attack remain unidentified.
