Togo urges UN to adopt accurate world map

Togo's Foreign Minister Robert Dussey has urged United Nations member states to replace the commonly used Mercator projection world map with the Equal Earth projection. The Mercator map, created for navigation in the 16th century, notoriously distorts the size of landmasses, making regions like Europe and North America appear larger relative to Africa. Dussey's proposal aims to adopt a map that accurately reflects the true scale of continents, particularly highlighting Africa's actual size.
