Russia, Azerbaijan settle plane crash compensation

The Foreign Ministries of Russia and Azerbaijan have issued a joint statement confirming they have reached an agreement to settle the consequences of the December 25, 2024 crash of an AZAL Embraer aircraft near Aktau. The statement explicitly attributes the crash to an 'unintentional action by the air defense system in the airspace of the Russian Federation.' The settlement, which includes compensation payments, was reached in accordance with agreements made by the presidents of both countries during a meeting in Dushanbe on October 9, 2025.
